Hair cloning

Current treatments of hair loss mainly consist of the taking of hormonal drugs to prevent additional balding, and hair transplant methods, such as Follicular unit Transplants, using either the Strip method of donor removal, or Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE), which in most cases is capable of restoring the look of full hair. It isn't as dense because the techniques used require redistributing your own hair, so you don't have more hair, its your own hair redistributed. For the hair transplant however, donor hair is needed, but with the cloning of one's own follicular cells, this would not be necessary. Unfortunately the technology to clone hair is not yet available.
Hair multiplication or hair cloning is a promising new technique under development to counter hair loss. Many millions of dollars were put into research on the subject by Atarands, but they have stopped researching it. Experts previously assumed that in the case of complete baldness, follicles are completely absent from the scalp, so they cannot be regenerated. In recent years however it was discovered that the follicles are not entirely absent, as there are stem cells in the bald scalp from which the follicles naturally arise. Abnormal behavior of these follicles is suggested to be the result of progenitor cell deficiency in these areas.
The basic idea of hair cloning is that healthy follicular cells or dermal papillae can be extracted from the subject from areas that are not bald and are not suffering hair loss, they can be multiplied (cloned) by various culturing methods and the newly produced cells can be injected back in the bald scalp, where they would act healthy and produce hair. This technique however is still in research phase, it is not used in hair clinics yet nor is widely known.
==History of the process==
Hair cloning was first proven to be a working and successful process in 1970 in a study that was performed on rats. Scientists were able to demonstrate the technique on the animals and reproduce healthy hair in bald areas, but in the case of humans little progress has been made since then. There are a large number of companies and institutions which dealt with the process and tried to correct the flaws or are in the process of perfecting it at the moment.
One of the main problems is that after extraction and culturing, cloned dermal papille seems to lose its ability to grow hair. Another is that researchers are yet to come up with a truly efficient multiplying method, as they look to produce up to 1000 cloned cells from one extracted from the scalp but current methods are capable of only a fraction of this.
